What is Earth Overshoot Day – and what can you do to #movethedate?

This year the Earth Overshoot Day falls on the 1st of August. The “Earth Overshoot Day marks the day when we (all of humanity) have used more from nature than our planet can renew in the entire year” (quote www.overshootday.org). It means that in order to sustain our current lifestyle we need 1.7 earths at present. As illustrated in the below graph, the Earth Overshoot Day has moved in the wrong direction since 1969 with the exception of a few years. In fact, 2018 is the worst year to date.
