People, planet, profit - how did we do on our sustainable goals in year two?

It has been two years since we launched VILDNIS and what an amazing journey it continues to be! With another year gone, it is time to take stock of how we have done in terms of living up to our promise of being a sustainable fashion brand. Last month we published our 2nd annual sustainability report, measuring our success in three areas; social, environmental and economic. You can read the full report here.  In a world full of greenwashing (the concept of fashion brands overexaggerating their efforts on sustainability in order to entice customers to buying their products), it is important to us to lead by example when it comes to transparency and honesty. For this reason, we are sharing...

8 ways we can #movethedate on this Earth Overshoot Day

Today, the 29th of July 2019, is Earth Overshoot Day, the day that we have used all the resources that this planet can regenerate in a year. Yes, it means that we need 1.5 planets to keep up with our current lifestyle. Eek. It’s the earliest Earth Overshoot Day so far since the Global Footprint Network started measuring it in 2006. Do you love travelling and seeing the world, yet feel guilty about your environmental footprint while holidaying? Luckily there are lots of things you can do to make your holiday more sustainable with minimal effort. In fact, many of those things will make your holiday even more enjoyable – and I am going to share some of my favourites in this blog post. Travelling in the age of climate changeWe are all familiar with climate change, and in an ideal world every single one of us would change our lifestyle to become 100% sustainable starting today. I am a big admirer of those people who give their lives a complete overhaul; abstaining from travelling, eating vegan and only buying sustainable...

How to choose fashion with a low environmental footprint – a quick guide to sustainable fibres

Sustainable fashion is one of the fastest-growing trends judging by this spring’s fashion weeks in London, New York and other big cities. And not only that, sustainable fashion is a trend that’s here to stay until it becomes the norm – unlike the recent somewhat strange see-through plastic trend (what was that about?) For many of us it means having to familiarise ourselves with fibres used in fashion and their environmental footprint – and it also means rethinking what we thought we knew about fashion fibres. Some of the fibres that we have been taught were good for us and the environment are actually not so great, while some of the better ones are still fairly unknown, making it a...
